Monday December 2nd

Today was the first day of the second trimester. Report cards will be sent home on Friday.

MATH

Barber- Equivalent fractions page 77-78.  Using shapes to find equivalent fractions and reviewing fraction hoppers.  CFP3-1 RETAKE WEDNESDAY DURING LUNCH!

Brazier- Using words, tables, graphs, and fractions to express ratios. CFR on Wednesday. Strand 3 test on Thursday. Strands 1-3 test on Friday. No study guides.

Kornas - HW-PAGE 80 #10 and NUMBER LINES FOR FRACTOHOPPERS WORKSHEET (USE RULER)

SWITCHES

Reading: (Teacher - Mr. Brazier): Character Study Thinking Routine: “Claim - Support - Question.”
HOMEWORK #1: TAKE HOME YOUR LOG. DISCUSS IT WITH SOMEONE AT HOME. SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON THE “REFLECTION” SECTION. IT NEEDS TO BE SIGNED AND RETURNED BY THURSDAY. PARENT COMMENTS ON THE LOG ARE ENCOURAGED.

HOMEWORK #2: FINISH “CLAIM-SUPPORT-QUESTION” IF NEED BE. DUE THURSDAY.

Science: (Teacher - Mrs. Kornas):  We will be doing WordMasters Word Study in science for the next several weeks. HW- RESEARCH ASSIGNED WORD USING THE TEMPLATE THAT WAS GIVEN OUT IN CLASS. REFER TO MORE THAN ONE RESOURCE WHEN RESEARCHING.

Spelling: (Teacher - Mrs. Barber):  NO spelling this week!  Students should be reviewing “sorting rules 3-5 times per week to prepare for upcoming tests.  The weekly homework is a responsibility.  Students will not be reminded daily to do this.

Social Studies: (Teacher - Mrs. Barber): Wrapped up Chapter 4 reading.  Further reading section and review this Thursday.  CHAPTER 4 TEST FRIDAY!

WRITING WORKSHOPS

BARBER: Writers “steal” structures to organize their own writing.  Looking closely at other writers’ poetry and attempting their structure.  

BRAZIER: Personal Narrative reflections. Poetry Genre Study continues: Today, we studied and wrote our own “apology poems.” It was a blast (if a tad disturbing).

KORNAS: The Great Gilly Hopkins Read Aloud - notebook entry

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Our classroom Poetry Slams will take place on Wednesday, December 18 from 2:30-3:00.
