ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • No school next Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 15-16) -- Mid-Winter Break

MATH
Barber: Writing addition, subtraction and multiplication sentences with fractions.

Brazier: Comparing fractions using pictures and symbols. Finding common denominators.
* ASK: “How do you know ¾ is greater than ⅔? Give as many reasons as you can think of.”  
* STRAND 5 DPP DUE ON FEBRUARY 26

Martinez: Geoboard Fractions


READING WORKSHOP
Barber: “Readers pay attention to the atmosphere: look and feels like.”

Brazier: “Readers pay attention to details about the setting - the way a place looks and feels - its emotional atmosphere.” Book Club meetings.
ASK: “Tell me about the emotional atmosphere, or mood, of Number the Stars.

Martinez: Readers pore over one idea.
ASK: “How did your Book Club meeting go today?”

WRITING WORKSHOP
Barber: “Opinion writers not only observe but grow ideas.”

Brazier: “Opinion writers get in touch with their beliefs.” Review opinion writing generating strategies (concentric circles; belief statements).

Martinez: “Opinion writers get in touch with their beliefs.”

*ASK your child how they felt planning our pretend party.  How did it feel after they read the letter from our fake PTA?
