ANNOUNCEMENTS

MATH
Barber:  Adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.  

Brazier: Daily Practice Problems (DPP). Reviewing the big ideas in strand 5. Adding fractions with unlike denominators.
* ASK: “Use ‘dot paper’ (just draw dots) to show me why ½ + ⅓ = ⅚.”
* HOMEWORK: COMPLETE ALL OF STUDENT GUIDE PAGE 175
* STRAND 5 DPP DUE ON FEBRUARY 26

Martinez: Fractions greater than one.

READING WORKSHOP
Barber: “Readers notice shifts in time in a story.” Using a timeline.

Brazier: “Readers keep track of story elements as they read.”
* ASK: “Quick: Come up with a headline for the exciting chapter you read today in Number the Stars.”

Martinez: Independent Reading.
HOMEWORK: Read your assigned book club reading.  Jot.  Then, prepare a sticky note for tomorrow’s book club meeting.

WRITING WORKSHOP
Barber: “Opinion writers get in touch with others’ beliefs.”

Brazier: “Opinion writers bridge their opinions and reasons with the word ‘because.’” (Also, reasons are general, not specific.)
* ASK: “Why shouldn’t a reason for an opinion be specific? I thought it was good to be specific!?!”

Martinez: “Opinion writers have reasons that are general.”

SOCIAL STUDIES (Teacher: Mrs. Barber)  
Barber’s class:  Read Chapter 10 introduction and 10.2.  Focusing on the tension between Great Britain and the colonists.
