READING WORKSHOP

Barber: “Readers push their thinking.” Jotting about characters, then pushing our thinking using prompts.  

Brazier: “Readers pay close attention to a character’s struggles.”

Kornas: “Readers develop theories about their characters.”

Martinez: “Readers notice when characters act in surprising ways to learn more about them.”

WRITING WORKSHOP

Barber: “Writers use transitional phrases to show passages of time.”

Brazier: “Writers think hard about where to include paragraphs.”
*ASK: “What is the relationship between your story mountain and the paragraphs you’ve decided to include in your story?”

Kornas: “Writers brainstorm alternate beginnings to their stories.”

Martinez: “Writers create a climax to their story.”

* HOMEWORK: STUDENTS SHOULD TYPE THEIR PERSONAL NARRATIVES.  DUE MONDAY.  THIS IS NOT A FINAL COPY.  WE STILL HAVE PLENTY OF WORK TO DO IN CLASS.  A PRINTED COPY MAKES IT EASIER TO MAKE REVISIONS.  STUDENTS HAVE STARTED ON GOOGLE DRIVE ALREADY.  IT CAN BE SENT TO ME TO PRINT.
