READING WORKSHOP
Barber: “Readers think about how the setting looks and feels.”
Brazier: The Art of Summary Writing.
* ASK: “In your own words, summarize chapter 3. Try to use the guide as little as possible.”
* HOMEWORK: RE-DO THE CHAPTER 3 SUMMARY OF NUMBER THE STARS, IF NEEDED. WRITE IT IN PARAGRAPH FORM. THE SUMMARY SHOULD BE A MIX OF “What’s in the text?” and “What I can infer/just tell?”


Kornas: “Readers take notes about characters as they read.”
* ASK: “Who are the main characters in your book club book?”


Martinez: “Readers think about how a setting looks and feels.”


WRITING WORKSHOP


Barber:  “Writers have opinions that fire them up.”


Brazier: “Opinion writers write about what they know well (or have a burning desire to know more about.”
*HOMEWORK: MAKE 3 CLAIMS. SUPPORT EACH CLAIM WITH 2-4 REASONS. The opinions about which you’re writing for homework need not be ones you develop and “publish” at a later time.


Kornas: Begin Word Study Unit. Analyze the word “bridge”.
ASK:  “How many different definitions did you talk about today for the wrd bridge?”
