ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • Tomorrow evening is Curriculum Night (for the parents of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders). Attend at 6:00 or 6:40 in the cafeteria.  


MATH

Barber: What is a trillion? Big Numbers in standard, word and expanded form.

Brazier: Big Numbers in standard, word, and expanded form.
* HOMEWORK: FIND A BIG NUMBER. BRING IT TO CLASS ON A STICKY NOTE TOMORROW. (Example: The U.S. National Debt: $18,400,650,088,232)
* ASK: “Write 12 trillion, 12 million, 12 in standard and expanded from.” (Answers: 12,000,012,000,012 and 10,000,000,000,000 + 2,000,000,000,000 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 10,000,000 + 2,000,000 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 10 +2)  

Martinez: Big Numbers in standard form.  What is a trillion?  Billion?  Million?  Thousand?


READING WORKSHOP

Barber: Workshop procedures.  Readers take ownership to improve.

Brazier: Essential Reading Workshop Procedures

Martinez: Reading Workshop procedures.  Students learned how to fill out their reading log.
*ASK: “How is your reading going?  What are you reading?”


WRITING WORKSHOP

Barber: “Writers write what they know well.” Continue with maps and lists.

Brazier: “Writers appreciate - and use - vivid images.”
* ASK: “Talk about a vivid scene in Up North at the Cabin.”

Martinez: “Writers write what they know well.” Continue with maps and lists.

What is a scientist?  Students wrapped up the work they did in a small group.
