MATH


Barber: What is a decimal?  Introduction to decimal models.  


Brazier: Reading and writing decimals to the thousandths. Translating between different representations of decimals (pictorial, symbolic). Developing number sense for decimals.
* ASK: “Write forty-six and four hundred six thousandths in standard form.” [Answer: 46.406]


Martinez: Big Numbers in standard, word, and expanded form.  What is a decimal?
*ASK: “Write the number 234,569,001,972 in expanded form?  How do you say the following number: 543,210.23”


READING WORKSHOP


Barber: Workshop procedures.  Readers set realistic goals.


Brazier: “Readers keep themselves focused for long stretches of time.”


Martinez: “Readers take ownership of their reading in order to improve.”
*ASK: “What is something you plan to do to make yourself a better reader?”

WRITING WORKSHOP


Barber: “Reading sparks ideas.”


Brazier: “Writers hook their readers right away.”


Martinez: “Writers get ideas from the stories in their life.”
