ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Field Trip Permission Slips are due on Friday (05/08/15). There is a purple form and also a yellow one.

WORD STUDY

Barber:  New weekly words: whether, weather, wear, where, were
* SPELLING TEST THURSDAY

Brazier: Analogies
* SPELLING TEST ON FRIDAY (the 25 words should appear in your fifth grader’s planner)

Kornas: Analogy practice. WordMasters presentations.  Be creative! Use props, costume items, etc to make your presentation memorable and interesting.
ASK: “Can I see your presentation?”

Martinez: Wrapping up dictionary skills.

Brazier - Switch One: Exploring the use of fractions as operators (e.g. 23of 640 acres). “The Land Problem.”
ASK: “What strategies did you use to solve ‘The Land Problem?’”

Brazier: DRA Nonfiction Summary-writing Strategy: Write the summary in chunks, using the headings as guides.

Kornas:  Looking at former students’ non-fiction books.  
* HOMEWORK: In your planner, write 3 different topic ideas that you know a lot about and are very interested in for your non-fiction book.

Martinez: DRA prep.

WRITING WORKSHOP

Barber:  “Writers create categories”

Brazier: “You can’t write (much or well) about what you don’t know.”
* HOMEWORK: 3 FASTWRITES, EACH OF 5-10 MINUTES, ALL ON DISCRETE TOPICS

Kornas: Word Master work during writing time.
