May 8th

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Fifth grade speeches due this week.  Ask your teacher for a specific date.

WORD STUDY

Barber:  Study the spelling of the first 10 words on the WordMasters list.  
*HOMEWORK: BRING WORD SHEET IN ON MONDAY.

Brazier: Spelling Test

Kornas: More WordMasters presentations today.  Spelling list for next spelling test is in planner.
*HOMEWORK: START STUDYING THE WORDS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN PRESENTED.
Next spelling test will take place on Tuesday, May 12th.

Martinez: Wrapping up dictionary skills.

Brazier - Switch One: Misc. Challenge Problems
* HOMEWORK: “Check Up.” DUE MONDAY.

Martinez - Switch Two: Adding fractions using dot paper.

SCIENCE
Barber: Wrap Activity 10 wrap up and begin Activity 11.
*QUIZ MONDAY

Kornas:  Wrap up Activity 11 and create a bar graph on graph paper (and using a ruler) to display data that was collected.
HOMEWORK: COMPLETE THE BAR GRAPH THAT WAS STARTED TODAY IN CLASS. BE SURE TO INCLUDE: “X” AND “Y” AXIS TITLES, THE GRAPH TITLE, COLOR AND BEST WORK THE FIRST TIME.


READING WORKSHOP
Barber: Finish The Cay & independently read.

Brazier: Summary-writing strategy: Omit nonessential details

Kornas: Independent reading and running records.

Martinez: Wrapping up DRA prep.  Running Records.

WRITING WORKSHOP

Barber:  “Writers consider their audience.”

Brazier: “Informational writing is highly organized.”

Kornas: Create categories/sections for a second topic of high interest and write all you know.

Martinez: “Informational writing is organized.”  Students determined their categories for their informational piece.
