ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • Student-led conferences continue this evening.

SPELLING
Barber: millionaire, exaggerate, ridiculous, proceed, and conscious.

Brazier:
* PERSONALIZED SPELLING TEST ON FRIDAY (Lists 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10)

Martinez: Study lists 5 and 10.
*SPELLING TEST ON FRIDAY.

MATH

Brazier - Switch One: Strand 6 (3-D Geometry), Day 2: Determining the relationship between the number of cubes that fill a rectangular box and the dimensions of the box.
* HOMEWORK: “PREDICTING NUMBERS OF CUBES.” STUDENT SHEET 3. YOU’LL NEED GRID PAPER TO COMPLETE THE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT.

READING WORKSHOP
Barber:  “Readers keep an open mind as they read.” Use the prompts to push others thinking.  

Brazier: “Readers notice whose voice is (and isn’t) telling a story.”
* ASK: “Whose perspective is largely told to us in Number the Stars? Who’s a character about whom we need to make many inferences?”

Kornas: Analyze two book club “fish bowls”. Book club reading and meetings.
* ASK: “What did you notice while watching and listening to the two different book club meeting today?”

Martinez:”Readers make inferences as they read.”

WRITING WORKSHOP

Barber: Tug-of-war: finding  the counterclaims to our own opinions.  

Brazier: Deepening our understanding of the role of transitional words and phrases in opinion writing. Individual writing conferences with Mr. Brazier and Ms. Prescott.
* ASK: “What does it mean to “introduce” evidence in your writing? What does it mean to “unpack” it?”

Kornas: Free-write and then analyze and reflect on writing stamina.
* ASK: How did you rate your writing stamina this morning after free-write?”

Martinez: “Writers consider why their opinion matters.”
