*TEST THURSDAY

Brazier: Prefixes and Suffixes
*TEST ON FRIDAY: 5 COMMON PREFIXES & 5 COMMON SUFFIXES (see planner)
* ASK: “How does the prefix ‘mis’ change the meaning of a word? Name a word that begin with this affix. What does the word mean with and without this prefix.”

Kornas: Students created their personalized spelling list for this week.
*TEST ON FRIDAY.


MATH

Brazier - Switch One: Strand 6 (3-D Geometry) continues: Conceptualizing Cube Configurations
* ASK: “If you wanted to find a box with double the volume of a 4 X 2 X 5 rectangular prism, what might its dimensions be?” (Answer: Any three numbers multiplied together that would equal 80 cubic units, such as 8 X 2 X 5.)
* HOMEWORK #1: WEEKLY REVIEW DUE TOMORROW
* HOMEWORK #2: STRAND 6 DPP DUE ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15.

READING WORKSHOP

Brazier: “Readers do a lot of thinking after finishing a text.”
* ASK: “If you were to rate Number the Stars on a scale of 1-5 (as you’ve been doing with your club-mates after finishing Book Club Books), what would you give it? What’s one word that would surely appear in your review of the novel?”

Kornas: Time For Kids Quiz. Book club reading.

Martinez: Thoughtful readers pause as they encounter important parts.  They consider why they are significant.  Students practiced the “Push Your Thinking” prompts to respond to significant parts in the text.

WRITING WORKSHOP

Barber: “Structure is important in opinion writing.”

Brazier: “Writers use transitions within and between paragraphs.”
* SUGGESTED HOMEWORK: MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR ‘BODY’ PARAGRAPHS (1) FOLLOW Lemke’s Laws and (2) INCLUDE TRANSITIONAL WORDS AND PHRASES.  

Kornas: “Writers recognize and use strong reasons to support a claim.”

Martinez: “Opinion writers evaluate the relative strengths of the reasons for their opinion.”
*HOMEWORK: EVALUATE THE STRENGTH OF YOUR REASONS BY PROVIDING THE EVIDENCE YOU MIGHT USE IN YOUR ESSAY.  POSSIBLE PIECES OF EVIDENCE INCLUDE TEXT CONNECTION, INTERVIEW, RESEARCH AND A MINI STORY.
